Report - Mulligans Flat Survey (Sun 28 June 1998)

It was a cold 9°C day, but there was no fog or rain, and the sun came out a little for for the midwinter survey. It was good to see the dams have filled up with recent rains. We recorded 47 species, an average winter's survey with nothing unusual bird-wise, although the number of fox sightings was a little alarming (at least four seen). The Hooded Robins were in their territory, a Whistling Kite was doing the rounds over the large dam, there was a Yellow-billed Spoonbill, and Brown Treecreepers were at two sites, including near the shearing shed ruin (the first time in that area for several years). Several Scarlet Robins were recorded, but no Red-capped Robins this time. One group recorded new species, a Boeing 737 carrying food - they do like to keep me on my toes! The next survey will be Sunday 27 September.
