Detail - Easter campout Cocoparra (2-5 April 1999)

Cocoparra is one of COG's long time favourite places. Among the 120 species recorded on previous visits have been Blue Bonnet, Australian Ringneck, Mulga Parrot, Black-eared Cuckoo (best stalked from a director's chair with a glass of red), Splendid Fairy-wren (breathtaking), Gilbert's Whistler (a real teaser), Crested Bellbird (always one step ahead), and Striped, Yellow-plumed, Spiny-cheeked and Blue-faced Honeyeaters.

The park is within easy distance of Binya State Forest (Cypress pines), Lake Wyangan (Red-necked Avocets and others last time) and vineyards (where there are also birds). Griffith is about 35 km to the west by road.

The camping area is a grassy flat with tree cover of Bimble box, ironbarks and Yellow box. It is bring everything in, take everything out. The only facility is a pit toilet. The best access is by turning off from the Ardlethan-Griffith road at Yenda (Myall Park road). From Yenda it is about 20 km to the Woolshed Flat campground, the last two-thirds of it on gravel.

Intending campers should ring or email Malcolm Fyfe (6253 0772 or mfyfe@tpg.com.au). Malcolm asks people not to forget that dining is an important part of a good campout: there will be a major food and wine evening meal to which all contribute something.
