Report - Blue Range Hut (20 March 1999)

Blue Range Hut is a beautiful area to visit and with 28 species of birds and one unidentified raptor this was an enjoyable morning.

Richard Mason led Janet, Judy, Chris and me on this cloudy morning. We spotted Wonga Pigeons, Pied Currawongs (heard a Grey Currawong), Satin Bowerbirds, Golden Whistler, Scarlet Robins, Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoos, White-throated Treecreepers, Rufous Whistler, White-browed Scrubwrens and a Rufous Fantail. Also coming from the forest were the splendid sounds of a lyrebird, always a special treat.

The local ranger entertained us over morning tea with stories of his experiences around Blue Range Hut.

For some of us gaining experience in identifying birds and bird sounds these field trips are a great learning experience.
