It is always an interesting and relaxing weekend at the reserve, set on the Illawarra escarpment above Wollongong, only a few hours from Canberra (via Moss Vale and Robertson). Heathland and woodland habitats, lovely walks and scenery, specialty birds Eastern Bristlebird and Ground Parrot, and excellent opportunities for other birds like Pilotbird, Beautiful Firetail and Tawny-crowned Honeyeater. Plus the banksias will be in full flower.
This weekend is fully catered with arrival for lunch on Saturday to lunch on Sunday, departing in the late afternoon. This time it will feature a gourmet three-course dinner with wine on the Saturday night. Simple accommodation (bunk beds) in a rustic lodge set near the heathlands. The lodge has recently been renovated for more comfort. Maximum of 12 people.
By participating in this weekend you help support Barren Grounds Bird Observatory. We are awaiting confirmation of the fully inclusive cost per person (likely to be $70-80 per person). Bookings to Jenny Bounds (6288 7802); payment due by 9 April at the latest.
