Report - Campbell Park Dawn Chorus (Sun 10 December 2000)

A cool clear dawn at Campbell Park greeted eight hardy souls and a wealth of woodland birds in full song. There were plenty of calls to be identified and birds to be found including both White-throated and Western Gerygones, Leaden Flycatcher, White-winged Triller, Sacred Kingfisher, Dollarbird, Dusky Woodswallow and Speckled Warbler. A Noisy Friarbird was seen sitting in its hanging nest, and the Varied Sittellas building their neat little nest high in a dead fork intrigued us. At a small dam on the edge of the woodland, both Wood Duck and Australasian Grebe had young broods. A fine morning’s birding and a total of 47 species was topped off with a glass of champagne.
