On what promised to be a scorching day, a good number of COG members met at the Jerrabomberra Wetlands carpark. Consensus dictated we tramp to the Fyshwick Sewerage Ponds first, while it was still reasonably cool. The ponds yielded good looks at Musk Duck, Blue-billed Duck, young Shovelers, and Hardheads. Reed warblers were in abundance. Everyone was keen to see the recently spotted Spotless Crake with their young. Even with the large crowd, many observers managed to see the illusive birds plus a chick or two. We then walked back to Kelly Swamp and observed Royal Spoonbill, Pink-eared Duck, several Latham’s Snipe, a male Darter, and an immature Nankeen Night Heron from the hides. Thank you Marie for leading the trip and Philip for bringing COG’s telescope.
