About a dozen COG members and children enjoyed a two hour walk in the afternoon sun on the slopes of Mt Majura, in search of Glossy Black Cockatoos and other winter time avian residents. While I can report that the Glossy Blacks were elsewhere that day, we did find a total of 16 bird species. The highlights included a pair of Tawny Frogmouths wedged into the fork of a tree close to the path we were using. They were very visible to the naked eye. Nearby in the same horse paddock we were able to observe close up a White-face Heron catching insects swimming on the surface of the little dam he /she was wading around. Near the start, a couple of Kookaburras also kindly allowed themselves to be looked at close range, much to the delight of the younger members of our party.
