Report - Oakey Hill (Sun 6 May 2001)

Eleven of us gathered at the substation between Lyons and Curtin on a clear but blowy morning. We noted a few thornbills, pardalotes and a Scarlet Robin before walking up Oakey Hill. It was quiet. There were no birds. Someone did get excited when they thought they saw a raven on a tree, but it turned out to be a twisted branch. All was quiet again. We may have not seen many birds on the ascent, but we did have great views of Canberra! Continuing further south down the hill, we had more success, noting more pardalotes, Silvereyes, Crimson Rosellas, White-browed Scrubwrens and Weebills. We returned along the horse riding trails finishing after a couple of pleasant, if relatively bird-free, hours in the open air.
