Report - Molongolo Gorge evening walk (Sat 10 November 2001)

About a dozen ‘aficionados’ gathered on time at the gorge entrance, one of them bringing the dire news that the gate to the reserve was due to be closed at 6 pm. I paid a hurried visit to the ranger’s house to see if he would open the gate again for us at about 7.30 pm. To no avail, there was nobody there. My apologies for not ascertaining earlier that this was going to happen. What ensued was a short walk into the gorge, then half a dozen or so of us drove to the top of Mt Jerrabomberra for another short walk, being rewarded by a pair of nesting Mistletoebirds.

Arrangements are in hand for a day long excursion to the gorge (strikingly beautiful place at all times of year) in May. A reconnaissance in the week previous to 10 November produced a haul of 28 species, including a small flock of what I suspect may be Little Ravens around the entrance. They could be just juvenile Australian Ravens, though.
