Apologies to anyone who turned up on Saturday 15 September; the listed time for the walk was confusing.
Four people arrived on Sunday for an afternoon stroll through a lovely piece of bush backing on suburbia. We saw 29 species - mostly good numbers of more common residents and quite a few returning migrants. We wandered up and over the ridge, which the local park care group has taken in hand and turned into an almost weed-free habitat, enjoying superb views of the Brindabella and Tidbinbilla Ranges. We were privileged to watch two Black-shouldered Kites at close quarters as they hovered, although we did not see them catch anything. We finished the afternoon with a stop at the small dam (full of frogs) and on our return to our cars, we managed to see three bowerbirds although there were no signs of a bower in the immediate vicinity. Unfortunately the Striated Pardalotes we heard were too high in the trees to be able to practice our newly learned skills of identification.
