Report - Botanic Gardens (Wed 18 June 2003)

About a dozen people turned up for COG’s Wednesday morning walk in the Botanic Gardens. We expected the mist to lift but it remained cold and the sun didn’t emerge until about lunchtime. Nevertheless we had a great morning with long close-up views of the Bassian Thrush, which was higher up the hill from the rainforest gully in Section 46, on leaf litter out in the open. Also seen were Rose Robin, White-naped, Fuscous and Crescent Honeyeaters and all the usual suspects.

We fraternized at length with the Australian Native Plant Society group on their Wednesday outing and later on benefited from Alison McKenzie’s knowledge of the Gardens and its out-of-the-way places, and learnt something of bird/plant interaction. A very enjoyable outing.
