Detail - KOSCIBLITZ: Intensive atlassing event (Sat 15 - Sun 16 March 2003)

Members will be aware that in January 2002 COG participated in a survey of birds from Thredbo to the summit of Mt Kosciusko, as described in the CBN article (Vol. 27, No 1, p1-10, 2001). Due to the recent fires in this area, the NSW NPWS has invited COG to revisit and survey these sites to examine the post-fire effects on birds. The team has been re-assembled to undertake the initial surveys over the Canberra Day long weekend. It will involve an overnight stay at Thredbo with some atlassing on Saturday afternoon but most on Sunday morning. Some further surveying during 2003 is also expected to occur.

There are still some vacancies on the team and if you are able to help, are fit and are an experienced atlasser, please contact Malcolm Fyfe (ph: 6253 0772; email: mfyfe@tpg.com.au). Malcolm is organising this survey and will be able to advise on the accommodation and catering arrangements.
