The Canberra Ornithologists Group Annotated Checklist
of the Birds of the Australian Capital Territory
This list is based on Birds of the ACT: Two Centuries of Change, by Steve Wilson OAM, published by the Canberra Ornithologists Group, Canberra, 1999. It has been compiled by David McDonald, and updated by reports published in Canberra Bird Notes.
In all, 282 species are included on this list. A supplementary list covers an additional 38 species reported in the literature as having been observed in the ACT but not currently regarded as being on the ACT Bird List.
Species marked * are classified as 'Unusual Birds' in the ACT. Please submit a COG Unusual Bird Report form to the COG Rarities Panel for each observation of these species, and for any species not included on this list.
